Fishing

There are so many ways to go Fishing on Long Beach Island. You can go surf on the ocean beaches, fishing for Blue Fish or Stripers. You can go fishing on the bay for Snapper Blues, Blowfish, Weakfish, Kingfish, and of course, you can also go crabbing too!

If you don't have the patients for the fish to come to you, you can enjoy a Party Boat and you go to the fishing either in the ocean or in the bay. You can walk to the Party Boats here in Beach Haven. There are additional Party Boats in Barnegat Light, near the Lighthouse. It just depends on
what type of fish that you want to go fishing for.

Sunset Cruise

You can go crabbing right down the road at the bay. Crab traps and bait can be purchased at the bait store, also down the road. By the way, both the bait store and the bay are close enough to walk to!

Pickleball

This racket sport is played with a whiffle ball and paddle on a court smaller than a tennis court with a net. Great for all ages.
Just about a mile down the road, a 10 minute bike ride (use our complimentary bikes) or 2 minute drive. Pickleball is played five days a week in the mornings. Feel free to drop in. $2 will get you use of a paddle and instructions for beginners. Always a nice varied crowd! Wear sneakers.

(Local alert!) "The Shack" is literally 6 houses down from the Island Guest House, and they have a "locals" discount, great staff, and great prices for their well done all round classic casual American, Italian and seafood menu. Great Pizza! A good place to get dinner and has a comfortable dining room. We have had guess go back the next night for dinner. It was definitely my bid for all around favorite of 2019 for our family.

Pet Friendly Places to Eat

As a pet-friendly Bed & Breakfast I am excited at all the places you can dine with your dog. More and more are popping up, making a vacation where you include your dog more fulfilling and enjoyable. Remember you can order for takeout at ANY restaurant and bring it back to the Inn to enjoy with your dog in the garden or font reception area tables or porch. All are a short walk with your dog. He will enjoy both the walk and the eatery!

Eateries where your pet can join you outside in a comfortable atmosphere where your dog is welcome, and gushed over, given water and loving attention include: Bistro 14, Station 117 Tavern and Garden, Barry's Do me a Flavor and The Woo Hoo.

Healthy Choices

Beach Haven can certainly cater to your Lifestyle with healthy eating choices. Most eateries have vegetarian and some gluten free choices, but there have sprung up several great choices geared to todays complicated list of requirements for what we will put into our bodies in the way of nourishment.

Playa Bowls, Carol's Organic Eatery Vegan and vegetarian, and Living on the Veg have great food and you can take out and enjoy it here at the Inn.

Barnegat Lighthouse

Enjoy a panoramic view of Long Beach Island, and see as even see Atlantic City on a clear sunny day, when you make it to the top of the top Barnegat Lighthouse, also known as "Old Barney". There are 217 steps that you will need to concur in order to make it to the top, and NO there is not an elevator. The original lighthouse was built and illuminated in 1859 and restored in 2008. It was re-illuminated on January 1, 2009 - exactly 150 years to the day that it was originally lit in 1859 with a new modern lens.

The lighthouse is open daily from 10 AM to 4:30 PM (weather permitting) from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Ghost Tours

If you are interested in the paranormal or just want to get into the folklore of LBI this is an interesting walking tour. The tour guide will share her own "stories"as well as historical stories based on tall tales of yesteryear.

On Tuesdays and Wednesday evenings, the Long Beach Island Museum offers Ghost Tours throughout Beach Haven, starting at 7 pm, at the museum.

The Ghost Tours start on the first Tuesday in July through the last Wednesday in August for $15.00 per person.

The LBI Museum is located at 129 Engleside Ave. Beach Haven, NJ 08008. There phone number is 609-492-0700 to make sure that the tour is still on for a rainy day.

Walking the Historic District

The Island Guest House is situated in the center of the Beach Haven Historic District. The district is on the National Register of Historic places for its significance in architecture and history as a beach-front summer resort. Definitely walk the area by starting at the Island Guest House and going south on Beach Avenue. The two blocks between the ocean and Bay Ave. (the main street with shopping that you drove down to arrive) is the historic district with beautiful large old Victorian houses.

The Historic District is from 5th Street, North of the Island Guest House and Chatsworth Ave., South of the Island Guest House, East of the Bay Avenue.

Long Beach Island Museum & Monday Night Talks

Monday Night talks are held at the LBI Museum, here in Beach Haven. They are held every Monday from 7:30 pm to 8:45 pm, starting the first Monday after the 4th of July to the last Monday in August.

Maritime Museum

The Maritime Museum is located in Beach Haven, 2 blocks south of the Island Guest House, on Dock Road, on the Bay side. They invite you to come visit us and explore the most extensive collection of maritime history and artifacts in the entire state of New Jersey!

In the summer months, they are open from 10 am to 4 pm.
September through May, they are open on
Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from

bEACH HAVEN ART WALK

The Art Walk along historic Beach Haven's eclectic business district which serves as the shopping hub of most of LBI's communities will offer art for display and sale to the public. Artist spaces line the sidewalk and are 10x15. There will be live musical performances throughout the day.

The event takes place Saturday, June 6, 2020.
